Aroma!!! Everyone who walks into G W Coffee & Tobacco puts a smile on their face, inhale deeply, and comment on the wonderful aroma that greets them as they enter.

Some come to browse, but many have a definite purpose in mind. Our regulars are always greeted by name or a comment about their last visit, or if they are following a mutual sports team, visiting with family, hunting, fishing, camping, etc...

For those new to our store, we try to learn why they chose our store and how we can best present our products. For instance, to learn about cigars, coffee, tobacco, or our other products we had to read a great deal and do some research. We also asked our customers why they preferred one selection over another. What would they be interested to try in the future. By listening to our customers we were able to grow and be selective in our choices. This is also how we expanded to our teas, syrups, etc.

In the summer of 1993, my husband, John, was approached by his customers of Knotty Pine Liquor to obtain premium hand-rolled cigars. After much thought and a little research, we discovered that it would take 1.5 million people in St. Cloud and the surrounding communities to support a tobacco shop.

Gourmet coffees were also coming on the horizon and we decided that coffees would make a perfect compliment with cigars and other tobacco products. But who do we have to roast the coffees? With the assistance of business acquaintances, we were able to sample from many roasters before selecting our local roaster, Tim Tulloch.

John had salt & pepper hair back in high school and as he turned more white his friends began calling him "The Great White", which is how "G W Coffee & Tobacco" became the name of the shop.
